Ethiopia Sidamo
Coffee beans from the Sidamo region are considered to be among the best in Ethiopia. It is one of the most sought-after coffees in the world, growing at an altitude of 1600-2200 above sea level. It was named after the original inhabitants of the kingdom of Kaffa (existing in 1390-1897), who called themselves the Sidams. In Ethiopia, coffee trees are grown mainly in orchards, forests, semi-forests and plantations. There are not many farms in this country, about 15 million people are engaged in coffee production (from harvest to export). Wild growing coffee is often a livelihood for farmers. Due to unfavorable climatic conditions, they are only sold for a few months of the year.
